how to replace chrome on qtr glass
« on: November 17, 2012 - 10:15:17 PM »
I got new qtr glass and need to swap the chrome weatherstriping from the old glass.
Has anyone done this?
By the way the AMD glass is not that great.

It can be done.

You need to drill out the rivets at the base of the trim.
Next, take an exacto knife and carefully start cutting away the old material between the glass and the frame.
Be careful not to scratch the glass where it'll be visible.

Once you have removed enough crud; start persuading it to be separated using a flat tip screw driver at the top edge between the glass and the trim. This will take a while.

The rivets where you drilled out/located are unique to each glass/trim assembly. Re-rivet one each opposite direction. This will make sure it stays secure. The factory rivets they used were unique in length once compressed. That is another reason why you need to do them in opposite directions.

One last step:

Take the un assembled parts to a good glass house. Let them put the glue in and set.
The guy I had mine glue mine together only charged me 20 bucks.

The rivets are located on the chrome trim or on the bent piece of metal that's attached to the left mechanism ?  It has the spring in-between the 2 screws/rivets.
