70 cuda bs23h0b 12k
« on: December 12, 2012 - 08:50:10 PM »
I recently looked at a clean 70 cuda, car has body work almost complete, jambs are shot in yellow already, car has fender tag, and good vin, decent options. road lamps, dual exhaust. 340 is gone in its place is a 440 6 pack that runs, my uncle knows the guy and helped him get it running. I havent verified any casting numbers on the motor or carbs to find out if they are original or repop. Has standard guages in it also
I found out it was salvaged title car since 2001 and still hasnt been registered with dmv so it has around $600 in fees. No damage that I can tell from an accident, it does have a fiberglass AAR hood on it so maybe it was in the front where it was hit.
So how bad does this kill the value of the car? he is asking 12k for it and I doubt he will go any lower he has all the parts to put it back together and a nice grille.
For me a salvaged title kills it but I want to be sure I am not passing up a good deal, I dont plan on buying it to resell it but I never liked the idea of putting more money into something then it is worth

Sounds like fair deal if the body work is done correctly. Is it a 4 speed or auto? Does he have a good interior or does it need redone? Tires/wheels? If all you need is paint you'd be doing pretty well.

Interior is complete. Wheels are rally wheels I think And it's an auto trans console. I was just worried wit the salvaged title deal that it would kill the value if I ever had to get rid of it

I'm real curious of other members experiences with salvage titles.
I've not had one yet, very close but have not picked one up yet.

Salvage titles,,,,  Anyone?

salvage titles can be cleared once the car is inspected. So i really dont see that as a major issue. maybe a small concession.

I live in California and I haven't heard of this to be true has anyone ever done it? I will call DMV today and see if there is a way to do it. The car was squired from a lien sale through a Tow company so maybe that is what caused it to be salvaged.

Also I wonder if you can get full coverage through hagerty on a salvaged car. I know regular insurance can't have it

In California once a car is labeled salvaged no matter what you do the title will always be salvaged. The DMV will do a major inspection in order for you to drive it on the road.Even if it clears the inspection the car will be labeled salvaged. In California there is no way to reverse a salvage title.Imo a 340 auto salvage title is not worth 12k.If it was a big block or 4 speed then I would consider it.

It is the same in Massachusetts.

A 340 was an up grade option from  the  base 383 big block. Most want the 340 car vs. the 383 in my opinion.

So, you would have to get it titled in a state that will take off the "Salvage" designation.
Then transfer the non salvage title to your state.
Not too big a deal.

Not sure that the California DMV wouldn't recognize the VIN once you transferred title out of state then came back in.  Unless of course you waited 10 years or so (whatever the span of time that causes records to fall off their files - which does exist, I know for a fact).
I think like the previous guy said, once a salvage, always a salvage (in California at least); unless you wait a really long time.
In terms of insurance, I have a pro-street car with a salvage title in California (fully licensed for the street), that is insure through Hagerty for stated value.
Hope this helps.

If your looking for a cuda with a good resale down the road?find something else and stay away from anything without a good clean title. :2cents:

Yea I told him I'm going to have to pass. Shame the car was nice and clean but I'll just keep gathering parts for mine. Just picked up a new grille yesterday and am trying to get a set of rallye guages
