70 Challenger Ignition Coil location etc
« on: December 31, 2012 - 02:42:39 AM »
Hi guys
Im removing the old Mallory coil off my 70 Challenger 340 car
and going to put a factory style round coil back on it.
Can someone post some pics of where the stock unit would
mount like OE ?  Ill probably just use a Standard brand replacement
coil for now, but what distinguishes the Mopar unit from others ?
The car started fine last week and not Now Spark at all.
I got power to the Mallory but nothing out of the distributer out of the blue.
Im putting a new set of factory style plug wires on it this week too and
I put on a new factory style Ballast Resistor on already.
The Mallory uses a ballast too, Ill probably remove that when I go back to
the stock coil style set up this week.

Im more of a Ford guy, and for example, most Fords from that era came
from the factory with whats referred to as a "yellow top" coil .

I appreciate the help and pics etc in advance.
this is the only pic I have of the current set up of that area.
thanks
Dg

The stock unit mounts right where your mallory is mounted now in the picture. The stock coil will also have a ballast mounted on the firewall, real close.  The coil nose will face towards the inside, not the valve cover
