How to restore tail lights
« on: May 02, 2013 - 12:25:49 AM »
How do I take these tail lights apart? Is there a special black that they need to be painted?  There isn't any screws to take it apart just some tabs. Help? :clueless: since my car is black could I just paint it body color?

I'm pretty sure they should be painted with organisol to match the tail panel.  You can get some PlastX plastic polish at an auto parts store and clean up the lenses.  THen mask them off and spray the organisol.  I think Totally Auto sells it in a spray can.

Basically it should be painted what ever you plan on painting the tail panel with.

Looking at BE&A's website, there are three separate parts that make up the assembly.  The lense, the housing and the chrome on the outside.  I'm not sure how they come apart.

Seems like I remeber they used muriatic acid on the lenses to clean them up like new on graveyard cars.

Easy. There are 4 nuts that hold the black bezel on and then there are screws that hold the plastic lens in the housing.

Thanks I had the nuts off the back I didn't realize they just came apart with some pressure. Thanks!
