Help Changing Pickup Coil
« on: January 12, 2013 - 03:28:15 PM »
Hey guys I'm working on changing my pickup coil this afternoon. I have everything disassembled down to removing the vacuum advance arm from the lower plate. How does it disconnect? It looks to be a stud or rivet of some sort? My repair manual makes it sound like cake to remove but I'm struggling. I didn't want to bent the vacuum advance arm, should I lift more forcefully?

the floating plate will lift allowing enough room to remove the arm for the vacuum advance

I used this when I installed a advance limiting plate.  It covers disassembling the distributor

Thanks guys, I went back out and gave it a little more umph, sure enough she came right out. Swapped my pickup coil, set the air gap and we're back up running again. Just an FYI for the future, my pickup that was on the car was reading within spec but I swapped it anyhow (after eliminating all other culpites) and sure enough that was the problem.

The flat blade screw you see in the picture is for the air gap adjustment only, it won't allow for anymore clearance.
