Drivetrain alignment
« on: April 15, 2013 - 03:30:33 PM »
I have read several posts concerning the prop shaft angle compared to the transmission yoke angle and the rear axle u-joint angle, but I can't seem to find anything about whether it is supposed to be in a straight line if looking from overhead.  I projected a line down to the garage floor from the center of the crankshaft bolt, slip yoke u-joint, and rear axle u-joint and in order to be in a straight line I need to shift my rear end over about 1/4" to 3/8".

#1  Should these three points be in a straight line or should it be at an angle?
#2  Is it good to use these points to see if everything is in a straight line?
#3  Is 3/8" a big problem or should I not even mess with it?

If 3/8" is a big deal and I don't want to move my rear axle (it actually needs to shift the other way to the drivers side in order to get equal spacing from the tires to the fender lip) is there any use in trying to pivot the engine and trans over?  Is that even possible or do the k-frame bolts and transmission mount automatically lock it down and that is just where it is going to sit?

i wouldn't worry about that at all, that's less than 1/2 of a degree.

The goal never changes - Stop the 60' timer with your back tires
