Need you suggestions on best bumper bolts
« on: January 17, 2013 - 09:09:21 PM »
I have my 70 Challenger bumpers at the shop getting rechromed.  I need to order some new bolts(the bumper to bracket bolts)and would like to hear about your preferences.  I have looked at bolts from most of the major vendors and have seen them run the gamut from plain galvanized to stainless heads.  I think I like the ones from Herb's parts the best($1.99 ea)  They look closest to the original ones.  Are the ones from Year One any better?  They should be since they are $12 /bolt!?    I need about 8 bolts.

Thanks
Mike

I'm happy with the bumper bolts I got from Roseville. Something like $20 for enough to do one bumper.

I used stainless steel carriage bolts and buffed them out, once they were polished they look identical to an original bolt, been on my car for over a year now and still look great. I`ll try to post a side by side comparison of them.

Where did you get them?

Every once in a while I get on a job where they use a lot of stainless steel ductwork, we use these to bolt the ducts together. I may have a couple extra somewhere but not enough for a full set of bumpers though. I got enough for what I needed wish I had more. I would think any place that sells hardware should carry them should only be a couple bucks a piece at most. The thread size for the bolts are  3/8 inch. I`ll look for them tomorrow and see exactly how many I have.

I used buffed stainless carriage bolts as well. They've been on the car now for about 5 years and look the same as the first day.  They can be had at any Lowe's, Home Depot, Menards, Ace, etc.
