header causing steering leak?
« on: February 05, 2013 - 07:47:56 AM »
I found a replacement ps box for my car. But the leak on my old one made me wonder if header being really close to the box could have caused the leak.
I had to beat the header up to clear it, but it`s still close ( maybe 1/8" or a tad more )
It`s an internal leak ,probably the O-rings on the piston head, definately not the input shaft seal.
I dont think I will be lucky enough to find another box out here, so if anyone has experience with this, I`d love to hear about it

I don't know if the heat caused your leak but, as a preventative measure I added a small cooler to my power steering. You could use a small ( or big?) transmission cooler too?  It's hidden pretty well, you can't really see it through the grill

About 1/8" where I had to hammer the tube around the steering box.

I have Hedman headers like Brad. Mine are pretty much touching the steering box, but I don't have any leaking problem. I do however have to add some power steering fluid periodically since it apparently boils away from the heat.    :bricks1:
