Fuse block ticks when I turn the steering wheel, help!
« on: January 31, 2013 - 10:51:15 PM »
Hey,
I found this to difficult to write, so I made a video so you can, see, hear and join the fun!
http://s1161.photobucket.com/albums/q514/Tonker1/?action=view&current=TickingFuseBlock_zpsa143c9d5.mp4

This will make sense after watching the video: Checked it out last night and there was no flashes of light in the area so I don't believe the fuse block is sparking

Thanks in advance

my guess is the horn wire is grounding triggering the relay in the fuse block

I would agree. Check the wires in the column.

I hope it is just the horn wire grounding, that would just make life so easy! I'll start out by disconnecting the horn to see if it solves my problem. If the problem continues I'll open up the column and individually disconnect electrical components until the ticking stops, than try to identify the issue from there.

Thanks again.

Do you have your horn connected? It should have blared with all this happening.

On the crush can, check the insulator for the copper connector for the horn? ( white part that insulates) I sent a crush can to someone on here that had almost the same issue?  If it's cracked and broken you will power the horn relay

You guys nailed it! The horn was the culprit. I cut the horn wire and temporarily installed a simple on off switch so I could diagnose the problem and work out exactly where the issue was coming from in the column. The moment the switch was put in the off position the ticking stopped. Before I could get further into the electricals a mate called and wanted help trying to start his Grandfathers 1952 Daimler BL8 which hasn't run since 1978 and has been living out the elements the entire time. Needless to say I got distracted. The Daimler needs a lot more work, as in a lot more.

Collectively thanks for the suggestion on the horn and for the pictures, I'm now back on the way to victory with the wiring!
