Putting A/C in a non-ac car??
« on: February 04, 2013 - 10:29:04 PM »
I was wondering how hard it would be to install an A/C system into a car with no factory A/C?

It really isn't all the tuff of a job. You can buy a complete aftermarket set up and mount it under the dash.  They make a kit for just about any type of old car. May take you a couple of daysOn a scale 1-10 I would say a 6 on difficulty at best

There are some pictures of the Vintage Air setup in this thread.

I have since tried my Vintage system and both the heat and A/C work quite well. It gets hot and cold pretty quickly. That said, I haven't had to rely on my car in the freezing cold or blazing heat just yet.

There's a soft back lit blue LED to let you know when the A/C is on.

The A/C compressor fits with my six pack as well. Not sure if the six pack base had to be modified to make room or not. If you've got a six pack, I can double check to make sure.

Classic Auto Air makes a setup too. I just bought the under hood kit to fit the AC comp. under a shaker hood wthe a 340.

After researching Vintage Air and Classic Air, I found Classic Air more friendly for E & A bodies.
