Well, she's finally done.    Will put her on the Dyno later this week, but she hit 440 hp at 5300 and a little over 500 lbs of torque on the engine dyno.    This was a 350 block - out of a '67 Imperial with 915 heads (that we kept)...and I wanted her to maintain her stock look, so I'm pretty pleased with these results.

Now my guys are suggesting REV-N-NATOR.....  to protect the motor.   Anybody have any experience with these?

Well?? Your November post had her going into the shop and your March post had her all dyno'd and done. A lot of time in between with no updates. I'm curious to know what your careful teardown and analysis revealed to be the cause of the problem. When you lose compression in adjacent cylinders (you mentioned you thought it was #1 and #3) my first thought is always the head gasket area between the two. So what did you find?? When you put the motor back together you obviously did something significant to get those impressive dyno numbers. So what did you do on the build that resulted in those impressive figures??
Cheers!

Brad.     As a 1967 440, it was rated at 350 hp....... That's what I meant  :dunno:

Tom.    Well, I had a major life event .....  Lost my wife of 40 years to ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) in January....

So, I kind of Rebooted the rebuild a few weeks ago, as I now plan on a major road trip with the Challenger to clear my head for a few months and maybe figure out what my future is now.......

When I bought this car 5 years ago it was represented to me that the motor had about 50,000 miles and they had gone through it with valves, hardeden seats, cam, etc.     well, when they took her apart, she was all wore out...... irings shot, no hardened valve seats, etc.....the seller hadnt done anything as represented.    So a fair number of miles and a lot of unleaded fuel...... Anyway, she was very tired inside.

My request of the builder was to kick it up, but I wanted it very street able, not temperamental and run on pump gas.    you guys here forgot more than Ill ever know about all this, and ill get the specifics from the builder (we went over it, but i forgot all the details).   I do know that we kept the stock 915 heads.....no porting.    They put some nice internals in.....   Ran into a few snags this past week and need to finish yp some other things (suregrip and 3.23 gears) and will need to put a few miles on her, then on the dyno and install a revnnator and hope to put her on the road by the end of the week......assuming all goes well and weather permitting... Will begin my trek south.....

My condolences on the loss of your wife. Except for maybe losing your child, I can't imagine a more difficult thing to endure.

40+ years together? That's awesome. Couples can't seem to stay together for 20 years let alone 40+ now a days. You guys obviously had something very special going. Again, my condolences.

Cheers!

Hi VT,

I just read your thread and I'm very sorry to hear about your wife.  My wife & I will be celebrating our 30th anniversary next month, but if you count all the time we've know eachother and dated we've been together for 40 years.   That seems like forever, and I hope you've gotten through the worst from losing her and can reflect on the good times together.

The reason I'm reading your thread is that I'm looking at a very similar build for my 70 Roadrunner including the desire to keep it stock looking complete with exhaust manifolds.  I'll probably be going with a 512 stroker kit, heads will either be ported stock 906 or 452 heads or 440Source aluminum stealth heads painted orange to hide the change.  Let us know how happy you are with your build and keep in touch to let us know you're doing OK.
