Turn signals don't work
« on: March 04, 2013 - 11:29:22 PM »
:clueless: Well I am now hooking up my harness to my 70 challenger. I am hoping someone can help me out again. For the record you guys have been a big help on my other issues with my project. Here is the problem I have i am using the original dash wiring harness. My new headlight harness was purchased at year one I think. My headlights work, my hazard lights work, my break lights work, my parking lights work, I went to napa and bought a new turn signal and hazard tin two prong thingamajig. Put them both on and did not make a difference. (Bought the hazard one just to change out both at same time). When I change from left to right the turn signal lights on the dashdo not come on.It does not even make a clicking noise. When I put my hazard lights on both signal lights flash like they should, and makes the clicking noise. I am at my wits end.

Thanks

The flasher in the fuse box should be for the hazzards. I know on the Cudas the turn signal flasher is by the ash tray.Should be the same on Challengers.  Did you change that one too?

Yes I changed the signal flasher and hazzard flasher. I checked with my test light i am getting power to both prongs on the signal flasher.

Thanks

One thing that is different for the turn signals is the ignition switch has to be ON.

Do you have a stick or auto transmission?  Your turn signals run through your neutral safety switch somehow.  Check for a blown fuse.

:clueless:Goes thru neutral safety switch?????? That I did not see coming. I do not have it hooked up yet. I have the starter relay hooked up, but not the NSS wired up. I need to order the NSSwiring harness I guess. Is there anything I can do to bypass it?

Thanks

See if these wire diagrams will help you out.

They are for a 1971 Barracuda, but they should get you close.

NSS should only affect the back up lights
If the hazards work you know all the wiring is working from the turn signal switch out , I suspect a problem with the turn signal switch if you can confirm both flasher units work in the 4 way & if you have power in & out of the new flasher & up to the column turn signal switch plug .

After checking everything I am all most positive it is the signal switch, also found out my ignition switch is bad. I turned the key to the off position and still had power to the blue wire, (coil wire).

Again thanks for all the leads... Will order my switches next payday.
