I have access to several original cars and detailed photos of over 70 other original cars taken in the late 80's to early 90's.  I have to research it. I agree there never is a clear answer; but you can eventually say that it was generally done this way.  You have put together a lot of cars.  Which end of the car did the bars paint stripes face?

Hi again everyone

I took two pictures of the same bar, (the left one), one shot from an end, and another shot from the other end. Pics might not be very clear, but one end says "440 779L"  and the other end says "CCL 779L". So, which way does it go in? Since I repainted the T-bars, paint marks are gone...

I've always found the paint marks towards the cross member end of the rod, but I couldn't tell you how that corresponds with the numbers on the bar itself.
Knowing that it doesn't matter which way they go, I never paid attention to the numbers before.

I am finding the paint stripes to the crossmember on pics I have.  Maybe that was so that the stripes could be easily seen during the final inspection before the car left the plant.

Yes, and the color of the paint indicated the spring rate.
