How did you accomplish this? I want to run 275 up front and 315 out back.  Seriously no tubbing? I thought I would have to do a 1" mini tub.

He has no leaf springs to be concerned about, dead on backspacing outta clear a 315 at that point.

I am wondering the same thing here. I have a short length dana 60 with a 4 link coil over on it and there was NO WAY a 335 was going to fit on my 70 barracuda or my 73 cuda unless I did a mini tub.  :pullinghair: I wanted to run the same set up as travis72 but like he said to make it fit he had to mini tub. I know that to quality control was horrible on these cars so maybe that accounts for it?

315s should have no problem (assume an 11" wide wheel) if you ditch the leafs.

To fit 335s, you MAY need to minitub on a 'Cuda.  I hear on a Challenger, you don't.  Unless you want the rear end slammed of course and that's only b/c of the inner fender on the outside curves in too much for serious air-bag drops.

I have the XV Level II rear suspension. The LCA was moved invards 1.5" with offset spring hangers to clear the wheelarch. My rear end is a B-Body 8-3/4.  It is 1.5" narrower than the E-Body axle. So .75" on each side. The wheels are 12" wide with a 6.5" backspace.

It is a tight fit. Really needed to nail the BS to pull it of. The problem with the Cuda is the outer side of the wheelwell. If you want airbags and slam it you'll need to tube it.

All a matter of taste, but I tend to agree the lower profiles don't fill out the wheel well (from the side).

17x8 (4.5" BS) up frt - 17/225/50 (25.9")
18x9 (6" BS) in rear - 18/275/40 (26.7")

No tubbing required on a Challenger. I assume the same would be true for a 'cuda. Just put 315's on my car. Relocated the rear leafs in 1.5" Stock e-body rear axle. Ground off the perches and welded new ones in new position. 6" backspace torq thrusts. Dr. Diff sells a kit.  :2cents:

As for op's question, I'd go for the 335's.

Thanks a lot for all the help.  Btw, I love all the pictures of the cars y'all posted.  Really kick@ss rides.

I see some of you are running the BFG G-Force KDW.  How do you like em?  Those are about the only affordable street tire in the 335 that I've found.  They're about $320 a pop.  The Michelin PS2 is around $480! :22yikes:

I plan on going with Reilly Motorsports Streetlynx rear and the 1.5" or so spring relocation kit.  Since I'm going for around a 2" drop, I'll probably rework the inside of the outer wheelhouse just to give a little more room for the outside part of the tire.

I strongly recommend getting a used 315 or a 335 tire for mock up purposes.  That was the first thing I did.  Yes each car is different.   Search on eBay or look around at some of the web forums.  I bought one at a car show swap meet for like 20 bucks.  Once I was done with it I gave it to a member on here for the price of shipping.  I think I still might have the 315 tire?

On my car the 315 would have fit but it would have rubbed around any corner.  No way to fit the 335 on mine and actually fit inside the wheel lip.   So far I've been really happy with the KDWs, but I've never had them on the track or in the wet yet (it never rains here) and I only have 300 miles on them.  My main complaint about the 335/30 is just the lack of tire selection (unless you want drag radials).

On the height issue, I agree that I wish there was a taller tire.  I wish they made like a 335/35 or a 335/40.  I guess that's why people go to the 345/30/19, but I didn't want to run 19" rims.  However, I really wanted the width.  It's only from the direct side that it looks short.  From other angles it looks good:

How does that compare to the 295s your looking at? If your really going to push it when driving, your going to wear out tires pretty rapidly.

In 295, the BFGs are way cheaper.  $227 at tire rack.  And of course there are a lot more choices, and some of those are under $300.  The Continental Extreme Contact DW seem pretty good too.  They're $263 and in the Max Performance Summer category.  I might just go with 295.  I've been thinking that the 295/275 setup might be a little more balanced.  On the track, I'm going to need to overcome understeer, and that would be harder with the 335 right?

How am I ever going to get this thing to hookup without the 335s though?  :pullinghair:

True, the 275/295 combo should be more neuteral depending on your suspension set ups.

Understeer is when your run out of front tire/traction.

335s in the back shouldn't care about that.

Get the biggest tire you can get on the front.  Lighten up the load up front (aluminum engine parts, move battery in trunk, etc.) and stiffen up the front suspension.

The new Viper has 355s in the rear.  Don't think understeer is an issue w/that car.

Ragtopdodge, you're right about the definition of understeer, which is my point exactly.  When you have more traction in back, you have less oversteer which encourages you to push the car harder in turns and reveals the tendency of the car to then understeer.

I have always planned on getting the biggest tire up front, hence the 275/35/18 I was talking about.  I'll try to fit a 285/35/18, possibly in Nitto NT05 since they run narrower.  And yes of course lightening up front with aluminum parts, etc. is critical.

The dilemma I'm concerned about is REAR tire size.  If my Challenger had the weight distribution of a Viper (49/51 with extremely low CG), which I wish it did, I'd be fine running that size tire(355/30/19).  However, it doesn't so that wouldn't work.  It would make the situation worse.  Let me ask you, what size tire does the new Viper run on the FRONT?  I bet it's wider than 275; probably more like 295/30/18, which is a BIG factor in less understeer along with the weight distribution and low CG.

I'm leaning toward the 295/35/18 rear since our cars are more nose heavy.  Thoughts?

Thanks to all for the input.
