clutch fork and z bar set up
« on: May 13, 2013 - 09:17:00 PM »
:canada: I need some help with my 4 speed set up. I have a 73 340 4 speed car I put a 440 in it back in the 80s ran a 4 speed for a couple of years then changed up to an automatic. I have put the car back on the road with the 440 and a four speed. Here is the problem. my clutch fork sits low in the bell housing about a 1/2 " off the housing, about 2 1/2" above. I cannot get the proper pedal play and my clutch is at the floor. I purchase a new big block fork and adjusting rod as well. I am presuming that I may have to replace the Z bar as well. Can anyone give me some Ideas or solutions. Also would like to purchase a new big block rad if you have some suggestions. Thanks

Sounds to me like you have the wrong clutch fork pivot. That's what dictates what angle the fork exits the bellhousing.

Thanks for the replies. The Z bar is level and square. The pivot makes sense That could also cause my inability to get the proper adjustment off the floor. Any Idea where I could find some info on the pivot. Thanks
