these are the numbers for 28''tires and stock tires.           for 440+6 or 426 street hemi

                                                    back end gear ratio
                                                          4.10:1 stock = 125 mph / 28"134 mph
                                                          3.23:1 stock = 158 mph / 28"170 mph
                                                          2.94:1 stock = 174 mph / 28"187 mph
i would take 2.94:1 with 28"tires because i like top speed more than 1/4 mile.

i am new to mopars i used to have a amc amx and now i have a 1969 dodge charger 440+6 r/t and it comes with 26''tires stock are challengers the same size? because (1971) numbers are for 26''tires i thought it was 24"but i could be wrong   for 24"tires  4.10:1 rear end would be 115 mph top speed and 3.23:1 rear end would be 146 mph and 2.94:1 rear end top speed would be 160 mph thes numbers are for 440+6 and 426 street hemi . BUT MINE COULD BE WRONG BECAUSE I DONT KNOW STOCK TIRE SIZE (1971) COULD BE RIGHT BECAUSE HIS ARE BASED ON 26"AND MINE ARE ON 24" SO WHAT IS THE STOCK TIRE SIZE.

At those speeds in those cars in those days there was more speed to be had but nothing more to prove, when you feel these things begin to float and drift you had to back out easily too not just shut it down cuz you were on the ragged edge of driveability.

You've certainly got that right! I'm not afraid of speed, I've done 140 on a motorcycle, but I tried to top end my first Cuda and when I hit 130 the front end got so light I backed off. Never did find out what the top end was on that car! :burnout:

THE FASTEST STOCK TOP SPEED E-BODY WOULD BE ONE WITH 2.94:1 REAR END GEAR RATIO WITCH WOULD TAKE YOU TO 160 MPH BECAUSE IT OLNY HAS 24"TIRES.MY 440+6 1969 DODGE CHARGER WITH 2.94:1 AND COME STOCK WITH 26"TIRES WOULD DO AROUND 170-174 MPH.

SORRY THEN THE FASEST TOP SPEED E-BODY WOULD HAVE 2.76:1 GEAR RATIO AND IN STOCK TRIM WOULD BE ABLE TO TOP OUT AT 171 MPH IF HEMI OR 440+6. THE OTHER MOTERS EX:340,383 WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO PUSH IT TO THAT SPEED. BUT THE 440+6 OR 426 HEMI COULD.

THESE ARE THE NUMBERS FOR 426 STREET HEMI OR 440+6 (TOP SPEED) IN STOCK TRIM RIGHT OUT OF THE FACTORY.
                                               4.10:1=115 MPH
                                               3.55:1=133 MPH
                                               3.23:1=146 MPH
                                               2.94:1=160 MPH
                                               2.76:1=171 MPH

WOULD BE FASTER BUT CAME WITH 24"TIRES CHARGERS,SUPER BEES,GTX WOULD GO FASTER IF ORDERED WITH 26"TIRES! :burnout:

I can tell you this....I had my Superbird (440-6, auto with 3.55 gears) hit 150 on the speedo. The speedo was recently rebuilt and calibrated, speedo gear was correct for the rear tire size  (275-60-15), and rear end ratio. That car felt like i was sitting on my couch watching TV! Now the car had a completely rebuilt polygraphite front end and alignment was properly set. I ran out of b*alls before the engine ran out of RPMs. I have no idea what the stock tach said for RPMs (NO WAY was I looking off the road to check!) and those tachs were wildly inaccurate anyway.

I'd say above 140-150 MPH, aerodynamics becomes a signifigant factor as the drag increases the HP requirements exponentially.

a 1969 dodge charger daytona with 2.76 gears, 26"tires, and a 426 hemi it is said that it could do 185 mph. a stock dodge charger 2.76:1 could do 178 mph. that is 7 mph diffrence. it is a small diffrence because the dodge daytona stock dosent get fast enough to show it's real potential. but once you do what they did to the cars in nascar thats when the top speed diffrence comes in! at bonnavile a dodge daytona (nascar)#77 hit 217 mph and the nascars back then were basically stock.
THE 1970 DODGE CHALLENGER 2.76:1  WITH 24"IS 6600 RPM CAN DO 170 MPH AND THE ENGINE CAN DEFINITELY PUSH IT TO THAT. IF IT HAD 26"IT AND 6600 RPM THE CALCULATIONS SAY 185 BUT BECAUSE OF ARROW DYNAMITICS IT WOULD OLNY DO 176 MPH!

THE DODGE CHALLENGER WITH 2.76:1 GEARS AND STOCK TRIM (24") TIRES WOULD DO 171 MPH!

BUT DOSE IT HAVE ENOUGH HP, TO GET IT TO 170 BECAUSE AERODYNAMICS WAS NOT GOOD ON THEM I DONT KNOW THE CD BUT WITH A 426 STREET HEMI OR A 440+6 IT DEIFINITELY WOULD HAVE ENOUGH HP. BECAUSE IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT THE DODGE VIPER DOSE NOT HAVE VERY GOOD AREODYNAMICS WITH A CD OF .38 (DODGE DAYTONA CD OF .29) AND THE VIPER CAN DO 190 WITH 500 HP. SO THE HEMI/440+6 WOULD HAVE ENOUGH HP TO PUSH TO 171 STOCK.
