Securing stereo in dash

Search did not amount to anything, so...
Installed an aftermarket stereo today.  Just slid in the metal sleeve, then the stereo.  It is not supported at all.  There is that hook that is between the stereo and ash tray, but not sure how to make it work.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

Not sure if this is what you are asking, but the original radios had two screws holding them in from underneath:



If this is the hook you are talking about,the original radios had a stud on the right hand side with a nut that would support the back of the radio.

That hook attached to a stud on the original radio at the back, just below the red wire with the nut on it:



If you can come up with some brackets to accept those mounting locations, that should work.

I just left mine hanging in the sleeve. I have had it like that for years now with no problems.

Don't waste your money on the factory bracket.
You can get an universal strap, most aftermarket radios come with them.

It's just a flexible metal strip with multiple holes for mounting.

The sleeve probably has some tangs near the front edges that you can bend with a screwdriver blade to keep it tight against the dash. Like MEK said, that'll probably do it.

That is the way it is in there right now, it just seems like it has a little bounce to it?

I secured mine by putting a small piece of wood between the dash frame and the sleeve (bottom of sleeve). Secured the wood to the dash frame with a screw. Then I secured the din sleeve to the wood by putting a screw in the bottom of the sleeve using a rachet wrench with a philips head bit. Will not move or bounce.

Put the sleeve (din) in the opening and put a small piece of wood under the sleeve in the space between the sleeve and dash frame. Secure the wood to the dash frame from underneath and secure the sleeve to the wood from within the sleeve opening using a small ratchet or wrench with a phillips head screw bit. Then slide your radio in the sleeve. Sorry no pics.

I ended up just sliding the sleeve in without anything else.  Stays in there without problems and works great

I used the universal metal strap with mulitple holes in it and bolted to the upper dash and screwed it into the side of the new radio.  Does not rattle or squeak.

I know this was overkill but I wanted the radio coming in from the rear for better looks & clearance as well be solid...
