fresh air door helper spring on e-body a/c heater box
« on: February 11, 2013 - 02:31:12 PM »
Hi CC Lovers,

sorry, copied from moparts.org, cause unanswered... I hope you can give me an answer.

I'm currently rebuilding my a/c box. It was broken completely at the fresh air door. Rebuilt everything and I'm very satisfied so far, but need to know where exactly I have to drill the hole for the fresh air door helper spring. I've found the attached picture on DMT's instructions (got the new Foam Resto Kit from them) and noticed that I've found such a spring.
As the damage went through the hole, where it is hold in the box, I don't know where exactly I have to drill the hole now.

Can someone of you please measure it? I like to give the spring the right position, so that it can help as it was designed.

Many thanks
Thomas

Its 3/4 inch in from the bolt. Just about in line with the arm on the door and in line with the bolt.

Many thanks, and welcome here, Rich G. I will do another upgrade which I got on the same thread on moparts.org, highly recommended I would say.

Another question. Is the spring loose when the fresh air door is closed an gets under tension when it is opened? Or vice versa? This will also help when aligning the spring.

It's installed just like in your picture. I cant really tell if it gets tight because my spring looks like it elongated the hole where it goes in the box. My box is on the floor right now and is on the to do list to restore. Just another piece in the puzzle.

Then really check out the link I've posted above. There is the recommendation to rivet a piece of sheet metal where the hole goes. I will do that too. Really good idea, to bad I have not come to it by myself.

But that's why we share information in forums.

Stainless steel metal is ready to be riveted. Really good to get the idea to solve a 1969 mistake.
