Rebuilt A-833 Transmissions, Brewer's Vs Passon?
« on: April 25, 2013 - 07:33:46 AM »
In terms of outright quality of rebuilt A-833 23 spline transmissions, which is better, the Passon or Brewers version? I'm aware people have favourites between these two companies for various reasons, I just want to know which has the better product!

The Passon unit is $1100   https://www.passonperformance.com/component/virtuemart/?page=shop.browse&category_id=32
Brewers unit is $1300        http://www.brewersperformance.com/proddetail.asp?prod=RTE23

No preference , both are excellent with outstanding reputations .
The Only reason I would choose Passon over Brewers is because of the effort he has made to develop the 5 spd 833 bolt in trans .

I got mine from Brewer's. Not installed yet, so I can only make some comment on their service and it's excellent!

Cant speak to Passon but I bought my A833 trans. and parts to do an auto to manual conversion on my 70 Cuda from Brewers.  Awesome products and awesome service, even after the sale.  Would highly recommend Brewers Performance!

Thanks for the information, I was weighing up my options for upgrading to a 4spd or restoring my A-230 three speed. After talking to both Passon and Brewers the costs were looking at
$1100-1300 23 spline rebuilt 4spd trans
$700 of linkages, shifter and such
$750 shipping

That does not include the $450 Mcleod clutch and pressure plate combo I need to replace my damaged clutch and pressure plate. When I go the car it arrived with out a scatter shield, bell housing cover plate or clutch fork boot and considering the amount of damage down there, I'd guess that it had been driven without those parts.

The parts to rebuild my three speed cost $200ish. Needless to say, I'm going a rebuild!
