Fuel sending unit install

Is there any prep needed to install a new sending unit or just unwrap it and throw it in?  thanks for all your help

no big deal. Just make sure you replace the gasket if it is old, and make sure the tabs click into place when you twist it back in.

A lot of folks have ground problems with these. I would go ahead and solder on a ground wire just for gp.  :2cents:

No, and it's not too difficult either. Just make sure you have less than 1/2 tank of gas when you remove the sending unit.

Some people had trouble with repopped lock rings and ended up using their originals..
You will have to pull the heat shield if it's in place and it can be a bit tricky to remove depending on your muffler/exhaust set up.

As a precaution I'd test the float for leaks first, especially if it's a brass one. Dunking it in water and looking for bubbles now may save some grief later.

Shake it to make sure it is empty...if you hear or feel liquid inside of the float, get a new one. 
My float had a major leak as you can see...



Drivers side heat shield needs to be removed.


BEFORE PICTURE: clean up the metal ground strap and use a dab of dielectric grease on the sending unit press on connector
