17 Inch Wide Rims ???
« on: May 18, 2013 - 04:13:23 AM »
I'm trying to find someone that makes a Nascar style steel wheel in a decent width.
The widest I can find is 17x9 but I want 17x11 or at least 17x10. They needs to be able to be ordered custom for the correct offset.

Has anyone come across anything ????

No problem with a 2 or 3 piece alum wheel but in steel I have not seen anything wider than 10"

Some places can cut and weld 2 rims together.

So you want a 17x17 steel wheel?

I've never seen such a thing and the weight on them is going to be just like their size: enormous. This is going to be a specialized, custom build.

Even in 15" diameters, I don't think I've ever seen a 17" width. It just an oddball size. I have seen 15x12, even 15x14, but never a 17".

In Nascer styles, 15" diameters are the norm as that is what the sanctioning body rules require. The only time I've seen a 17" diameter nascar style wheel was on the Ray Evernham '64 Plymouth build, and those were one off custom units that retained the Nascar spec 9.5" width.

Try these guys, they offer 17x11 shells and D window centers. They can even weld them all up for you. They say $180 per wheel and I'd guess they are going to weigh in around 50-60# each. These are designed as a non bead lock rim for use on off road vehicles, so durability is more important than weight.
