72 Rad and Shroud question

Hi Guys,

Hoping someone can enlighten me,

I have a 72 Challenger with a 340 has the correct 22" rad # 3574628. Car didn't have a shroud when I got it. I bought one part # 2998328. Researched both #'s and they seem to be correct. It has a stock viscous clutch fan. The shroud doesn't fit, not even close. Needs to come up and to the right. My thought is the rad brackets that hold the fan shroud maybe incorrect, but they appear to have been on the rad forever. I'm at a loss, can someone help.

Thought of something else, the car was originally a 318. Not sure but are the motor mounts and K-member brackets different for a 318? 318 k-member not the same?

Sometimes things aren't what they seem. I have a 74 Challenger with a 340, originally a 318 car. I needed a new fan shroud but the 74s were a one year item, different from the 70-73 models and noone made a reproduction shroud. Turns out I needed a 70-73 shroud as a PO had changed the rad at some point. Make sure your rad is what you think it is.

I have a 1972, 22" original radiator and shroud from my Cuda 340 that I'm thinking about selling. Let me know if you are interested.

Thay would have probably saved me a lot of trouble. Is it part # 3574628? I think I need to try to make this one work. I have like $500 invested into it now. Could I bother you to measure the studs where the shroud mounts. Maybe this will help me understand what is going on. Thanks, Jeff

Radiators and shrouds are really easy to re-position. For my shroud, I re-positioned it
by buying some 3/16 x 3/4 x 48 inch aluminum from Home Depot, cut and bent some lengths
to the desirable shape, then drill holes at each end for the bolts.
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"
