Wheel /Tire Combo for This Suspension Setup
« on: July 19, 2013 - 11:54:55 AM »
I'm looking for recommendations for wheels and tires for the following suspension setup:

The car is a 1970 Challenger R/T Convertible with 383 Magnum

1. Front Supension is a Control Freak IFS (very similar to RMS Alterkation).
2. Rear Suspension is 4-link Control Freak.

What would be the best wheel/tire options to get the most out of the suspension?  Would the stock 15x7 rallyes on BFG TAs detract from the handling characteristics inherent with this suspension?

YES!   If you want the full potential for handling you will need 17" or 18" rims and tires. If your into the ralley style look at Year One for the new 17" aluminum rally's Then look into Falken 615K for tires. ( that's my plan for rubber when funds allow).
I just got back from the Autocross at Carlisle and tires were my biggest handicap . If your going to all the trouble, time , and expense of changing out the suspension and then getting BFG t/a's you might as well have stayed with the bone stock set up.  :2cents:

Thanks for confirming what I thought Brad.

I like the stock rallye look but I really dislike the YearOne 17" Rallyes.

I want to be careful because I don't like the look where it's all wheel and no tire if you know what I mean.

The car will be FE5 red with blackout on the hood and a black bumble stripe so I think 17" Boss 338 or Torquethrusts with the black spokes would look cool.

Rims are a personal touch, with varies tastes!  :2thumbs:  Sad fact is that you have to go with 17 or 18" to get good rubber.

I started this thread because I thought it would be of interest to you as well given we're facing similar issues.  I know you've already purchased and installed your brakes but you could go with larger brake if you go with a larger wheel.

I posted a picture of a challenger with torquethrust wheels. Not sure of their size but bigger than 15x7 for sure.

I've already thought about putting larger brakes on there. The real work of getting all the hydrolics in place is done now.

Those are at least 17s and they look really nice.
