I now have everything out of the interior. I removed the old factory insulation, do I replace that with the same stuff or can I do the whole firewall in the sound deadener? Do you do the roof also?

You can buy the insulation pieces from Yeardone or many other outfits.

I have included a pic here which shows a couple of new pieces.

Btw, under the carpet I have fatmat installed.

I thought long and hard about this tarry, gooey, sticky, never to be removed easily under floor insulation.

My decision was not to use it.

Since I'm going with 2.5" stock manifolds, it should cut down on decibels considerably.
The engine will get about 6-10 mpg. Certainly not a daily driver qualifier.

As far as heat: I do have a special insulation (NASA good stuff thats not sticky) on the floor areas that keeps heat from penetrating into the interior. Keeping heat out is more of a concern.

Topcat can you share more info on what you used? I had a fully stripped miata and could hear everyone including rocks pinging underneath the car. It was very engaging but the heat in the floor well and along the transmission tunnel was intense. My 73 cuda will be totally stripped interior but 'd like to add something to keep my feet and right leg from being cooked. I am removing the Dynamat that the PO installed and would love to find a solution that isn't so permanent. Word of warning if you install any viscoelastic material (Dynamat, fatmat) you better want it forever.... It's taking tons of effort to remove.

I did the roof on my car, made a huge difference in reducing the noise inside the car - try knocking on the roof sometime, it's like an empty drum without the sound deadener. I also used expanding sound deadening foam between the roof skin and the crossbeam too which also helped.

:iagree: I used a product everywhere including the roof. It now is bearable in 100ºF heat. Product is about $250 to do the entire car including the trunk and door exterior panels. It is a bitumen like sticky side with tin foil on it. Sticks like $h'ite to a blanket.  Called B-Quiet. They also told me on the phone it is suitable for the roof even in a place like Arizona in summer.

I plan to do my firewall and the cowl area with dynamat - the best prices I found on it was on Amazon of all places. I ran dynamat under the carpet and floor and tunnel shield on the underside of the car. Really cut down on the heat transmitted into the car from the exhaust

I got a good deal on eBay. Will you still use the stock insulation or just the dynamat on the firewall?

It's about 1/4" thick. Originally used for buildings.

After talking to Charlie, he told me this stuff was ideal for floor and roof areas on cars. He sent me some for practically free.

After I 3M adhesive spray; I put down a carpet insulation over it.

I'm considering a product on eBay called sound deadener, sold by flamekits1 . It's 50ml thick, 50 sq ft for $60 shipped.  It doesn't  appear to be the bubble type of product like ez kool, but a rubber and aluminum barrier.  Have you heard any feedback?  Thanks, Greg.

I won't be using the stock insulation at all, just the dynamat and then some generic carpet underlayment from summit that is aluminized on one side that I glue to the the dynamat
