Can't believe it's almost June already! I'm sorry for the sporadic responses, your guys' advice has not been falling on deaf ears. School and work have just been kicking my butt. Just one semester to graduation! I have made a lot of newby mistakes thus far, hopefully others in my position can learn from them. I know I won't be making them again...
1. I found out that my transmission is actually a 1976 904. This is based on the "PK" part number stamped into the side of the tranny. I wish I could find the site that had all of the numbers listed, but I can't at the moment. I will update if I do find it, however. Once I got the proper torque converter, it slipped in nicely.
Should this transmission fit? It appears that the tailshaft is going too far passed crossmember where it bolts up to.
2. The gas tank sending unit I bought has two lines leaving it. Two lines run back from the front of the car but one goes up into a tube/pipe in the trunk. There are also four tubes that leave the tank and go into that same tube in the trunk (for venting?). I don't get it, what do I do with that other line coming out of the sending unit? Also, I think I found the wire that goes to the threaded part on the sending unit but I won't screw on, does it just push on?
3. My battery is already routed through the trunk, the positive wire should go to the starter, but then what wire connects the starter to engine harness, etc.? Or does the pos wire also connect to the harness somewhere?
4. How does the gas tank filler/feed neck stay up where it is supposed to? I see four screw holes in the neck itself but nothing on the body of the car.

Tips/things I learned:
Make sure the motor mount brackets and rubber mounts are on the engine before dropping in. I have found it easiest to just slip the long bolt through the K member, one bolt each side. The brackets attach to the backside of the ear tabs on the block. Do not try to drop the engine in with the headers attached, not worth having to take them off in the middle of install.
Push some paper towels into the tailshaft of the tranny before install/removal. I ended up with a lot of tranny fluid down sleeve and into my jacket.
Cover the top of the gas tank with plastic/a gas tank pad to avoid water collecting up there. The gas tank feed neck needs a grommet. Make sure to have the sending unit pickup go towards the bottom of the tank.
The oil pan on the engine I have is for a truck, I was too hasty and have found this out the hard way, it hits the steering linkage. I will be pulling the engine and putting the right pan on this weekend.

Gas tank installed, looks ghetto but it was done pretty well. Recoated the inside of the original tank, the plastic is pretty snug across the top.
