May 20th, 2013 Oklahoma City/Moore Tornado Prayers
« on: May 20, 2013 - 10:04:54 PM »
Hey folks,

Today I lucked out (as I did back in May 3rd 1999 in almost the same path) just being several miles from this massive tornado that struck today . I wanted to ask for prayers from the community here in the recovery of the victims. I have several friends not yet known of their status but pray they are fine. As for my family, I'm thankful all is fine. But for others, especially an elementry school in Mooore Ok, it's not looking good at this time, but prayers will surely help.

Thank you.

Moring All, my family and I are fine. The tornado was about 10 miles south of us.
We had heavy rain and pea size to golf ball size hail. No damage, though.

That said, we do have close friends that lost everything to the tornado.
They themselves are well and don't have an old Mopar.
My friends new Ram 1500 is not recognizable; a mangled mess.
At least they are all OK.

This morning the Chief Highway Patrolman, Betsy Randolph, said they'd rescued 101 survivors that were stuck in their garage floor tornado shelter. That's a good thing. They are hopefull to find more survivors today.

Just like back on 3 May 1999, the Air Force Base Commander sent out a text last night asking for military volunteers to show at the Base early this morning to form a Search and Rescue Team.
I'm sure that they will require several AF school buses to take the volunteers to Moore.

Our thoughts and prayers to the people of Moore.

Man, glad you guys are ok!  Pretty close to you guys!

Saw the news last night, crazy horrible.  One picture that stands out is a mangled stew of cars.  Looked like my sons Hot Wheels drawer, just a bunch of cars dumped together on their side, roofs, etc...

Real sad situation, and I guess a bunch of kids got killed too.  :(

Just talked to a buddy of mine a couple of hours ago. he had a son and a father in law JUST BLOCKS from the devastation. Same as in 1999 or when ever the last one hit. WoW! I would be packing up. My heart goes out to all those people. Un-believable. I can't imagine.

Well of the major tornadoes, there was May 3rd 1999 EF-5, May 8th 2003 EF-3 and now May 20th 2013 with all three just about on the same path (within a few miles of each other).
I've attached a pic of tracked tornadoes in and around the OKC area since 2011 and does not include the May 20th tornado. The city of Moore is in the circle.
Tracks of all recorded tornadoes occurring wholly or partly within the immediate Oklahoma City, Oklahoma area, 1890-Present. County boundaries and major highways are shown. The immediate Oklahoma City area, and other cities included in this study are outlined. Tornado paths shown that are completely outside the immediate Oklahoma City area are not included in the table or statistics for the OKC area tornadoes.

And to add, I'm happy to find out my friends are okay but their homes are totalled.

Yes, it happened again, not an EF5, BUT 5 different tornadoes (so far). Unfortunately, people did not get out of the way. 9 people died in their cars, three of them Pro Tornado chasers.
Multi vortex tornadoes are very unpredictable and these caused very widespread damage and death.
I live just two miles SW of Will Rogers Airport and damage was pretty bad all around it along with many other areas.
I'm very lucky (once again) to survive. This time I heeded the warning (went in the storm cellar) as it was bearing down a wide path.
I had tree damage and lucked out. Many are without power still because of widespread power pole damage.
And then record amount of rain fall to make things worse. two died in flooded areas.
I've never been in a hurricane but can imagine what we went thru Friday night was just the same. I latched chains to keep the lid from blowing up while propping it up just a couple inches and observing the whole thing. The very heavy rain and tree limbs were blowing horizontal out of the west for a while, then out of the east for a while, and then out of the west again. The whole mess lasted around two to three hours of constant pounding wind and blinding rain. Oh, and the sirens went off it seems about three or four different times.
I pray for the families who lost loved ones and folks who's homes were destroyed.
I hope we're done with this season.

God Bless,

Tom
