Can't shift into park
« on: March 28, 2005 - 09:55:18 PM »
My 77 doba, 360 auto, cannot be put into park anymore?
As I'm not mechanically inclined, I'm gonna have to pay to have it fixed. That's cool, but I'd like to go in with a little knowledge as to what the problem might be.

I can put it into any gear but park.
Recently I've had to sorta force it to get into park, but now I can't even do that.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Assuming we are talking about a console shift, it probably is just some kind of adjustment that needs to be made.

:iagree: Sounds as though the linkage is just out of adjustment, an easy fix. I'll let Chryco explain how to make the adjustment.

Could be the plastic bushing is bad.
I would try the adjustment at the trans first. Very easy.

PUSH!!!!!!!! PUSH HARD

No, don't do that. I'm thinking not major, just some binding or needs adjustment as said above. Worst case scenario - disable the linkage all together and just change gears from underneath car  :ack:

i agree that the nylon bushings may be bad so the linkage has play in it , so that the linkage is not moving far enough to lock into park
