440 Source Super Stealth Cylinder Heads
« on: June 19, 2013 - 01:26:21 AM »
What the word on the street on these heads? Reliability, flow numbers, etc.
Thanks
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

1300 miles on mine so far, and no issues. I run on the hot side, but i am guessing that is more just being a 440 than the heads.

Here's some flow numbers from the 440Source web site. I think these are for the basic stealth heads and not the "super' stealth, but it will give you some good basic info on how these heads flow. Good bang for the buck!!  :2thumbs:

Cool, ya, look like a deal. They did say port work can get you up to 330 cfm on the intake, and 650 to 700hp on a 500 cu in motor.
Surprised they don't use 2.18 inch intake valves.
Valve spring pressures seem kinda low.

This is exactly why I bought the bare heads and put in my own valvetrain.

I bought a set of bare stealth heads a few years back and had a local machine shop do the port work. I built a 543 stroker motor and got well over 600 ponies at the crank when we put it on the dyno & with a little tweaking could push it to 650. Good heads for the money as far as I am concerned. I do agree with HP-Cuda, use your own valve train on the heads & you'll be happier!  :2thumbs:

The valve seat is part of the head. I wont ever spend another dime with 440 source! And not just this one experience has made me say this.

I guess you cannot be perfect all the time. Maybe you just one the one in a million.

I thought on most high performance applications you don't need hardened seats?

Guess we'll have to be careful with the new Stevens heads.
