Dodge "Dying"? What up wid dat!
« on: June 21, 2013 - 04:25:07 PM »
Went over to Allpar and read the thread quoting a Ward's blog article that calls Dodge's future in question....

I understand Dodge sells a lot of cars, and yes that things are still in flux, and yes that Ram makes trucks now, and yes technically a minivan is a truck so the Caravan should probably not be offered..

Dodge still makes a lot of cars and apparently this was spread around over the last three days or so in the Giant Internet Rumour Wheel but it doesn't make sense.

But say it did...

I wasn't happy that Plymouth was murdered and really Dodge is/was the only brand that had cool cars that sold well during the days of the Evil Daimler Empire Attempt.

In lot of ways Dodge saved Chrysler and continues to do so..
1)The Trucks
2) Viper
3)Charger
4) Challenger
5)Dart
6) The sippy cup wagon called Caravan..

But they are trimming its lineup apparently or in corporate speak, focusing it. That doesn't sound bad as long as they don't focus it out of existence eh? Well enough with hyperbole I don't think Dodge is going anywhere soon.

Do you?

Would you mind if it did if the Challenger, Viper and 'Cuda names were given a more appropriate life in the new SRT division?

The problem with the SRT division is many folks don't wanna pay a premium for performance so in order to have the platform Dodge, Fiat, Chrysler or some other line has to use the same platform for the volume sales. Ammirite?

You'd think the division that gave Chrysler the halo viper and Challenger would be safe from the heavy hand of corporate structuring.. I don't know any more though.

I am excited about that new SRT division, except I don't have the dough to buy a 85k viper and you can't fit a family of four in it and it's the only vehicle in the line up for now. That's another thing, but these things take time. Years. Decades. Generations....

That said I'd rather see the Challenger and Vipers live on for many years under whatever guise they want to put on it. Bring back AMC.. I don't care.... These are iconic cars and deserve to be continued for many a year...

And as far as the 'Cuda.... If it has to wear an SRT badge to see the light of day then so be it. Just don't mess it up boys. A 'Cuda needs to have a certain attitude and I'm not sure we can import that from Italy...
