    1970 hemi cuda resto mod questions

    Just picked up a 1970 cuda with no engine or tranny. My idea for this car is to put a 6.1 hemi and a manual 6 speed tranny from a 2010 challenger and put the hemi cuda badges on it. Also the lower part of both quarters are rusted out and I'm not sure whether to just patch the holes or to replace all the panels. As for the interior, I plan to put new racing buckets in the front and just recover the the back bench. Also I plan to put in a whole new dash and all new components. My thoughts for the rear end was to try to find a Dana? All four breaks will most definitely be changed to disc breaks. Does anyone agree or disagree I would love too hear some other ideas and opinions.

    Definatly a workable plan , everything has been done before so you should ba able to get a lot of good info & help . I would upgrade the suspension as well , I am more of a fan of relatively stock suspension with upgraded parts , better shocks torsion bars & sway bars etc , Doctor diff is the person to contact for a dana built to spec

    Tell us more about the car on how it was originally equipped.

    Do you have a fender tag and/or buildsheet?
    It's past owners? Where it came from?
    Options?

    It was originally a 318 car with a auto trans, as you can see I've began tearing it apart to find rust. I have two hoods for it and hope to make the second hood into a shaker. I'm not sure how I can intregtate the old shakers with the new hemi.

    you will have to swap to the 3 speed wiper motor for shaker clearance , I doubt the T56 shifter will come close to the same position in the floor , for one it is in the center of the trans where the 833 is bolted to the side , I believe the shifter can be positioned in different places on the top of the T56

    When swapping from a 2 speed wiper to a 3 speed, is the electrical harness any different?  I am guessing the switch inside the dash is also different?

    Yes on both accounts. I also believe there are different wiper arms in swapping to a 3-speed too, but I'm not 100% sure of that.   :-\

    Oh, I didn't think of that.  Maybe someone will definitely know the answer to that question (different wiper arms).  I checked yearone on the harness, seems the main dash harness is the same but there is a 2 speed wiper harness that is extra.  I don't see anything for a 3 speed harness though...????

    A 3 speed wiper comes with the harness installed on the motor and the short arm off the motor to the linkage is different between the 2 speed and the 3 speed wipers.

    If you already have an 8 3/4 rear, you only need a sure grip in the differential.  I'd just cut out the rust and patch it, POR 15 it and be done, but get all your mechanicals complete first.  It takes a long time to convert to a new hemi and your new paint will be trashed by the time you get it on the road, ask me how I know....

    Unless you're really good with metal and have plenty of time on your hands than money; then go ahead and do a flat hood to shaker hood conversion.

    I did the conversion and I would not have done it if I had known before hand how long it would take in hours.
