fuel sending unit
« on: July 08, 2013 - 11:39:33 PM »
I just ordered up some SS brake lines and some 3/8" SS fuel lines for my 71 cuda build.  I am running a stroker 520 cu in with 6bbl carbs.  My question is about the fuel sending unit and fuel pump.  I currently have a stock type mechanical fuel pump to run the motor on the dyno.  The 3/8" lines are on the way.  I do not have a return line, and I do not think the 6bbl ever came with one.  I am looking at SS sending units, and most come with a 1/4" return line.  Do I need to buy a single outlet, or just get the 3/8" outlet with a return line, and just cap the return line?  It is not out of the question that the car may end up with a FI system some day, and that will need a return line.   I am also concerned about the stock mechanical pump keeping up with the fuel demand.  Will it be an issue with the larger diameter line?  Do I need a higher flow fuel pump? Suggestions?  Experience?  thanks guys.  J
