Best method to pull yolk off pinion during seal replacement
« on: July 16, 2013 - 02:03:17 PM »
Replacing the pinion seal on my 489 case and having issues removing the yolk.  Nut came off no problem - yolk, not so much.  Appreciate any tips or tricks to helping it slide off the pinion.

I was able to free mine with light pressure from a harmonic balancer removal tool while tapping the aft surface of the yoke corners.  This took a while  but I was worried anything more aggressive could damage the pinion or its bearing.

Wasn't going to replace the crush sleeve but I did mark the pinion and nut and also know the preload since I checked it with a torque wrench.

Thanks John.  I've got one puller to try.  If I can't get it off with that I'll order yours.
