Interior panels
« on: May 16, 2015 - 09:24:56 PM »
Rear interior panel install.

The rear upper attachment of the interior panel, does the screw go into the hole as in the pic?
Cannot get the screw to pull in that steep angle. Am i lacking a bracket or....?

BTW, LOVE Metros door panels. Fitment, look and feel of them is outstanding.

Hey brother Dutch!

Good point, thought you guys where mind readers.......

First pic, see the rear panel screw that i circled.
Sec pic, thats how the screw sat when i bought the car years ago.

The screw hole is enlarged so with a fat screw i might get it to pull.
But, doesnt look right, supposed to be like that?

Severe case of over-thinking maybe...

I think that there shouldn't be any hole there. At least in my car there isn't although it's an SE but I don't think it has anything to do with that (sorry for the picture-it was taken at night). I'll look further into the manual...

Do you have a screw next to the one you are referring to ? (like in my car). Here is the Manual, I think that all the screws are there, three of them, but in that position...

I didn't know it, in his avatar he says that it's a 72 Challenger turned into a 70 clone. So that's the right position.

Thanks Alan!

So, panels for 70 and 72 up are different.

Alan, may i trouble you with my original question:
on 72 up, should the panel be just screwed in as my last pic?

ChallengerSE440, guess the manuals are not that exact when it comes to yearly changes.

Went out to my garage to check my old factory panels for -72 and the screw holes are exactly as in my new panels.
So, yours are different.

:iagree: Sorry if I troubled you, i didn't have in my mind that yours is a original 72 in the first place. I checked it later when Alan said it. Anyway, to me this seems to be the right hole, it needs a little pressing and moving it around to get the perfect placement. When I installed mine, it was very difficult and it is the original panel to the car. Just a little trial and error. I would also see how my passenger side panel installs...

I think the problem is your trying to use the screw to pull the panel down tight.... The correct screw has a long shoulder maybe 1.25" so the panel is held in alignment but not pulled down toward the metal structure underneath....

And yes 70 didn't use that screw.. But it's not a bad idea to have one there just so long as you don't distort the panel by tightening it...

Yep, you are right. Pass side panel sits perfect while the driver side panel is slightly distorted. Well, i will live with it, dont want to break the new panel.

Thanks, guys!
