    How do i know what rear axle i have?

    got a 70 barracuda with a 318. How do I identify the rear axle? Would it be a 8 3/4? What are the different case numbers?

    Look for numbers on the side that end with 741, 742 or 489.

    Also this can help if you can't find numbers. Just count bolts on the pumpkin lid or notice that it is front opening only (8 3/4).

    It also should be a 8 3/4 rearend if still factory probably 3.23 open gear.
