Need help finding this part
« on: August 20, 2013 - 05:55:16 PM »
I got a little crazy and took the Challenger for an unscheduled off road event. I was burning up a set of old tires, smoking the crap out of them when I lost it and jumped a curb. It was ugly!
I'm lucky I got away with just a little damage.

I bent the Lower Control Arm Support Strut. If anybody knows where I can buy one, I'd appreciate a heads up. I can't seem to locate one on the net.

THANK YOU for your help!!!

How bent is it?  I straighten mine myself.  I did it in a press.

I straighten them with a hammer on the floor...roll them back and forth and work the bend out accordingly.
I've taught you everything you know.....but I haven't taught you everything I know !

Mine is probably is not bent too bad, I really don't know how to judge that. My steering wheel is about 45 degrees turned to the right when the car is going straight.
BUT, I found the part. It's cool how you go from being stumped to being on a roll when you're chasing something.

I talked to Bruce at Suspension Restoration (GREAT guy), he said the Strut Rod is a SPRING STEEL part. He used to work with spring steel. He said the proper way to straighten spring steel is to heat it, bend it and then PROPERLY heat treat it after it's been bent. He thought the guys at Firm Feel could help me.

I called Firm Feel, they have some nice reproductions. But I wanted to stay with the real OEM stuff, the guy at Firm Feel said I should try Wild Cart MOPAR, it's a junk yard that iS MOPAR ONLY!!!
I spoke to Matt (503-668-7786), nice guy, he will ship one on Friday, $35 plus $14 shipping.
DONE!!!

A torsion bar is spring steel. A strut rod is not.

Proof is in the Pudding...It's kind of hard to bend spring steel and have it stay bent. :2cents:

But I glad you found one...
Tip: Mark the threads on your torsion bar adjuster before you remove the torsion bar so that after you re-assemble, you get the exact same ride height
