Horn button assembly with a crush can?
« on: August 05, 2013 - 02:13:16 PM »
Does anyone have any pictures showing how the horn is assembled on a crush can column on a Challenger?

I am starting with a column that had no crush can and had a Grant wheel on it.  The wheel was up against the dash pad lip and had no horn connected.  PO used a separate button on the bottom of the dash.

I installed a crush can and have a Tuff Wheel look alike on order which is drilled for the Mopar can as well as the standard Grant pattern.

I ordered a horn button retainer and a Tuff Wheel horn button contact assembly.

I am wondering what else I need plus how it all goes together.

A picture might be worth a few words :)

the horn button screws onto the steering wheel with 3 very small machine screws , the horn pad just snaps onto the horn button , the ground wire comes up from the can into the horn switch

Would you mind telling me where you got the parts from? I'm in almost the same position. Car had a grant wheel and the crush can was in the trunk. I have a tuff wheel clone but still need horn parts ... plate, etc.

If you click my restoration link in the sig and go down to the second picture you will see where I started.

this is Dale's Cuda Shop

Not obvious unless you know what you are looking at but it includes both the contact plate and the three legged horn button retainer.  Horn button should have fingers in the center that pop into the circular hole on top of the retainer.  When you press the the horn button, it tilts the retainer and makes contact with the plate to complete the circuit

A lot of the Dodge trucks used the same horn switch with a similar horn pad into the 80s
