Carburetor Gasket Difference
« on: August 13, 2013 - 05:58:36 PM »
Can someone please explain the difference between a 4 hole square bore carburetor gasket and a square bore open center carburetor gasket? I'm running an aluminum original Edelbrock LD340 and a square bore Edelbrock Thunder Series 650 carburetor.

What do you guys think?  Is there a difference?

Thanks

I'm no genius about this stuff but the 4 hole gasket would be the one I would use due to the fact that your intake is a dual plane intake and the 4 hole gasket will seal your carb to the intake better and take advantage of the venturi effect.  The open center gasket is more for single plane intakes like an Edelbrock Torker.

generally the center wall is not complete & is cut down on the center to allow some balancing between the dual planes so have a 4 hole is not going to seal to anything in the middle anyway , I rarely use the 4 hole type

Excellent point.  All of the LD340's are cut out slightly in the center so the 4 hole wouldn't make sense.  Thanks guys.

What about the divided (2 hole) gasket on a dual plane intake with a square bore carb???

Dummy me.  I should have just looked in the box since the carb is new and see what Edelbrock put in it.  They included the one hole, open center gasket.  Now I feel stupid but hey at least I admitted it.  Thanks for all of your help guys.
