What's out there for the 904?  Do you have these kinds of tips for the little guy?

All of the tips for the 727 go along with the 904 also. The Valve bodies are the same, the rear servo needs to be shimmed etc.

Hay T, I know you are the man for transmissions. Maybe you can answer me this. I heard there is a way that one can add an over drive on the cheap 727/904 trans. Is this true? I heard this has been refered to as the old school method?

Do you know of any way to add a fourth gear? or is this just some bs?

You know i heard of something like this too. I think it was a myth but who knows. Heard that you loose neutral and put 4th in its place? Can't imagine everyone dropping 2500.00 on gear vendors when this could have been an option though.

I could tell you what to try.I copy the B&M Manual pack to make a "home made" manual valve body that works very well. :grinyes:

Any chance you could give some more info on your "home made" manual valve body?
Cheers

Sorry, not much. You cannot even buy the B&M Manual Pack shift kit any more. Shame too because it worked great! My notes are all lost since I closed up the Trans shop.

Thanks Terry, I have noticed you can buy the separator plates on ebay, Just wondered if it could have been a DIY job :)

This is what I did, I bought the B&M Shift Improver kit ( just for the gold separator plate and the holes were already in the right sizes/places) and copied the spring tension on the pressure regulator valve and 1-2 shift valve with a table top scale. Drilled the channel plate areas (removed the walls) left the right balls out and had a machine shop make me copies of the 1-2 governor plug out of machine steel. I made about 5 of these for customers and sold them (hence buying the gold separator plate) and they were all very happy with them. I found out by trial and error on my old Duster drag car that the 1-2 shift valve spring HAD to be stiffer like the one that came in the manual Pack kit or you got a bind up in low gear where the race car wouldn't move! Oh, and you had to completely block off the governor feed hole under the valve body but that was easily accomplished by a cup plug available for a GM 350 Turbo Hydromatic transmission.

Thanks again for you time Terry, it's cool to hear from someone who doesn't mind sharing their experience.
