70' Challenger speedometer R&R
« on: August 21, 2013 - 07:01:40 PM »
I'm a Newbie and already enjoy the site, input from the Members and the "mystique" of owning a Hemi Mopar!

I need a little help. My 70 Challenger has developed a problem with its speedometer--it doesn't move/work. Where and how do I start on the troubleshooting? Assuming its the speedometer itself ( original to the car as far as I know), what steps to I take to R&R it? I'm in southern Utah ( St. George). Where would I send it for overhauling?

Thanks for the help!!

I once was a Bowtie owner but now (and forever) will be a Mopar aficionado!
Rick

Does your odometer work? If not, I would look at the speedometer cable first. It could have bitten the dust.

Then yes, you could need a complete rebuild of the speedometer.

This is one option, although I don't have any knowledge about their work.

First check to see if both ends of the speedometer cable are attached firmly (especially the one that goes into  the side of the transmission).
