73 Radio Removal - Trim Screw Locations?
« on: August 22, 2013 - 08:15:57 AM »
Removing the radio from my dash, having issues finding all of the screw locations to remove the lower right trim panel holding the radio. Are there screws on the right side that need to be accessed through removing the ash tray? How many screws are on the backside? Looks like a major PITA to remove this while the dash is still in.

Thanks in advance for any help.

It's been a while since I swapped in a radio but aren't there just 2 or 3 screws that go up through the bottom to hold them in place and then the bar on the back which is held in by 1 nut/bolt?

It should be relatively easy to do with the dash in if you don't mind laying on the floor.  You definitely don't have to pull the ash tray out.

There is absolutely no need to remove any of the plastic trim.

Up from the bottom you'll find two 3/8 hex head screws. At the back of the radio you'll find one 7/16 hex head nut.
Remove these three fasteners and the radio comes right out the back. Be sure to disconnect the wire plugs. :2thumbs:
