I have a 70 Challenger R/T 383 4 speed. I purchased the car from the second owner who bought the car when it was two years old. It sat outside for a long time, and needs a lot of work. It also needs a fender tag. Unfortunately I don't have a build sheet, but I would like to recreate a fender tag that represents exactly the way the car came from the factory. Fortunately for me, the second owner, a lady, didn't do any mods to the car except replacing the engine her boyfriend blew up. I have studied and recorded a lot of fender tag info on 70 Challenger R/Ts built in LA (E code). I am certainly no expert, but I want to do this right. It does not have the numbers-matching engine, and I am not going to do a restoration on it, but would like the car to be complete, hence my quest for a tag. This is not a heavily-optioned car, and I think I have everything figured out on the tag except for two items on the next-to-the bottom line- the production date and order number. Does anyone have any idea where/how to come up with that info or how it is estimated? On the door sticker, my car has a 10-1969 production date. I know there is somewhat of a difference in the option sequence depending on where the car is manufactured. I also know there is not necessarily a fixed sequence in which some of the options are listed on the tag. From what I have discerned about tags, it doesn't seem they were always made with extreme care as to thoroughness of data. Sometimes a "minor" option will be listed on a tag, on other cars it won't. A well-known mopar guru wants about $1500 to look at the car with no guarantees he will produce the tag. If he can't, he will refund only the cost of the tag ($200). Not worth it to me. I suspect the guru would extrapolate the production date and order # based on data he has on file. In other words, a guess. I can do that, perhaps not quite as accurately, but don't feel like paying $1500 just to get the numbers a bit closer. Any ideas, resources or info would be appreciated.
