Is this console base correct?
« on: September 14, 2013 - 05:40:41 PM »
Hello ya'll...

I'm still plugging away on my buddy's '71 Challenger R/T. Now, my attention is on the console. Out of the car, the way it has been since it was taken out 9 years ago, all looked fine. But, now that I'm putting it in, something doesn't jive. Is this an correct or incorrect bottom half of the console? I can see where the two halves have been separated at one time or another. It doesn't seem to go to the floor enough. I don't believe I should see any part of the shifter mechanism and I am hoping the carpet isn't cut too much ( you can see it with this console, but a proper console may hide this as it should).

Thoughts?

From the looks of it you have a 4 speed console in an automatic car. Or one that has been modified to fit a 4 speed hump.

Something is definitely not right there. I'd guess your console is for a 4 speed.

Yep, that looks like a 4-speed console. Here is a link to a previous post that shows the difference. Notice the pics submitted by 06Daytona.

Hoss brought this other base over and I swapped it out...... Looks for like an auto, but for the life of me, I can't get the front two mount points to line up with the floorpan console plate !!!!  Grrrrrrrr
