Cuda rear end troubles and a dumb question
« on: September 11, 2013 - 11:12:17 AM »
After adding a sure grip 741 case rear diff with 3.23 gears last season, I noticed some problems: A bit of a whine and leaking fluid.

I was given the diff assuming it was OK, although I never had it BP’d or checked or anything. I swapped it out anyway, added the lube and sure grip fluid and off I went.  No break in period was needed, or so I thought, as it had unknown miles on it.

So, with all that, I decided to tear into it one more time, yank the diff and have a local guy blue print it, check for cracks and gage it.

My questions:

1.   Anything additionally I should consider to the diff?
2.   Is there anything I need to do to the rear end prior to assy, seal kits, etc?
3.   I was planning on using gasket paper this time, instead of seal-in-a-tube.
4.   Dumb question of the day, does it harm my banjo style axle by placing jack under the center?

Thanks all.

Oh, one more question, while I was underneath, I noticed the front driveshaft can move up/down when lifted, and the play seems to be at the automatic transmission output shaft area.  Movement seems to be about 3-6mm.  Is this serious?  I have a high speed shake in the car after about 60-70mph.

thanks
