EPIC Road Trip this fall. Route 66 N' More
« on: March 25, 2013 - 12:38:28 AM »
No Power Tour for me this year.  Doing something a bit bigger.

Route 66 to Los Angeles, the PCH up to San Fransisco and then the Lincoln Highway back to Chicago.

I've talked to you guys at shows and over the web.  Some have commented that they might want to come with.  Either doing the whole thing or just bits.  Anyone is welcome.  Just let me know!  Rob and Jason I'm looking at you!

Let me know what you guys think.

I've wanted to do that drive for years, but never got around to it. When I was a kid in the 70s or early 80s we did it in a camper.

Where did you get that mural on the wall, it's awesome

The wife and I have talked about this very trip. But with going to Carlisle this July we would not make the Route 66 trip. We are going to do it sometime for sure. The trip we are concidering is to go to Denver and do the VPoint roads and then go and pick up R66 and come back home. I hope you get a good group and I know you'l have a great time. Please post some pic along the route.

I've had the same trip in mind ever since I started working on my Challenger.  I have several must drives including: Rt 66 and PCH, and Rt 1 from Maine to Key West.  My year looks pretty full this year (Carlisle, Watkins Glen, SEMA) but if you have dates in mind please post them up so I (we) can see if things can be made to work out.

Thanks for putting this out there! :2thumbs:
Yes I own a 1972 Dodge Challenger Convertible T/A S/E with a 440 Six Pak. Can it get any more wrong?

No problem.  The dates are on the blog linked above.

Also I found out the Lincoln Highway borders the Bonneville Salt Flats.... so guess where I am stopping!

Indeed.

It is a rough time frame right now.

Leave the 17th of September
Reach LA by the 27th

Leave LA on the 1st of Oct
Reach SF by the 1st

Leave SF on the 3rd
Get to Salt Flats on 5th

After that, There are no definitive plans, there isn't the following on the Lincoln Highway like Route 66, so there is much less to see.  So it might take a week to get back to Chicago, it might take 2.  We shall see as things shape up.

I expect to take it easy and do about a state a day.

There have been a few updates.  But it is a week until we set off!

We moved the leaving date up a bit to get out of Chicago easier.  So we're leaving on the 15th.

Ryan,

I just saw this today (Sept -11) and it sounds like you are leaving this weekend.

I would love to do this trip with you guys. BUT, I have a job and need money to keep my toys, house, wife, etc.

Have Fun!

I would love to do this trip also. It's on my bucket list. But health problems and money won't allow it this year. Have a great trip.  :burnout:
