    70 Challenger four speed console top plate

    I’m a little confused about the shifter cut out in the console top plate in my car. The shifter boot is centered about ½” further to the rear of the cut out. The previous owner pointed it out to me and said that he thought it was an automatic top plate.

    My fender tag confirms that this is an original four speed console car.

    How can I tell if I have the wrong top plate or if the console just isn’t mounted right?

    Each plate, auto or 4spd, look totally different.
    Do you have a picture ?  :picture:
    It would take about 0.03 seconds to determine if you have the correct top plate.

    It looks to me like the entire console is mounted too far forward. The only reason I question it is because of what the previous owner said.

    I have a new shifter boot and a case of Dyna Mat that I was going to put in next weekend. But I want to make sure that I mount the console in the right position when I’m putting it back together.

    Good news is you have the correct 4spd console top plate.
    You'll find about an inch of fore/aft adjustment on the factory brackets. If you can't move it far enough, you could get away with drilling new holes in the floor brackets without it being noticed.

    If everything is indeed factory installed, you should be able to mount the console in the correct position :2cents:
