For anybody interested we here in Australia are having our annual premier car race at Bathurst New South Wales. It is the Bathurst 1000 km race with mainly Commodores (GM) and Falcons (Ford) but this year Mercedes and Nissan have entered.
There is a formula for the way these cars are built trying to make all cars competitive with each other.
It is called the V8 Super Car series and one of the rounds was held in Austin Texas (Austin 400) this year back in May 2013.
The cars in the video clip on the first thread used to race at Bathurst many years ago and still do have their own race at Bathurst and were basically Showroom production cars. Over the years costs and rule changes evolved into what we now have with the V8 Super Cars with only a few manufacturers cars being used and supposed to be no factory teams now.
The track at Bathurst is a public road which is closed off several times a year for the purpose of racing cars and motor bikes. It is over 3.8 miles long and rises 570 feet from it lowest to highest point, it is very demanding and has attracted many top overseas drivers over the years including Americans.
I believe that it can be watched on line over the internet, our local national TV station Channel 7 broadcast it live with in car as well as static and helicopter vision as well.
