Fuel Line Question
« on: October 29, 2013 - 11:11:24 PM »
Hi Guys question for you guys running 500 cubic inch engines or nicely warmed over big blocks. Getting ready to install a 500 stroker motor into my 71 Charger RT.Those who have made the switch, did you also upgrade fuel line to 1/2 inch? Or would 3/8 with electric pump be enough? This is a street car but if I decided to play a little I don't want the engine to be starving for fuel. Thoughts and recommendations guys. Thanks for the input Sam

I WAS ABLE TO RUN 12.0 WITH A 5/16 LINE F&$&^g caps lock so around 500 HP 3/8 will flow approx. 25% more so 600 HP with a good pump should work but it never hurts to go overkill either & make sure you do not have a problem , I have built numerous 512" running with 3/8 lines

HV mechanical , but I have only put 7 miles on the engine & have not even broken the engine in or run it hard so far , my friend Coronet made great # on the dyno up to about 6000 rpm with no sign of leaning out & he is running the same HV mechanical pump

3/8 should be fine, unless you are gonna blast for 1/4 mile at 6000 rpm, then you might
run outta fuel, but your carb bowls would have to empty first.
I have 3/8 on my 496.

If went 1/2 inch, would have to make sure there were no other 3/8 inch restrictions, like at the tank pickup
or at the fuel pump. Otherwise, all the 1/2 inch line would be wasted.
