Oil Hole Con Rod
« on: October 31, 2013 - 09:30:24 PM »
Just trying to get some help/info.
I am going through my engine parts in readiness for building my 360 LA.
I remember somewhere that the small end bush hole needs to be opened up slightly, I am using Scat Rods with fully floating gudgeon pin. The hole is presently at 3/32", were the rod holes supposed to be opened up to 1/8" with a slight chamfer or will 3/32" be OK. The motor will be a strong street/highway motor not a high speed race motor.
I was pleasantly surprised that all bar one of these rods were the same weight and then only out by 1gm, made an easy fix as the Big End was also 1gm heavier on that rod.

  Thanks in advance,

Sorry cannot help on that one , I would think with the oil hole & bronze bushing it shoulb be fine , I know I have seen a chamfer at the top of the hole but I am not aware of a need to open it up

Apparently the early rods had a smaller hole, I have been checking out a few things today and it looks like these rods are at the required enlarged size, that is 3/32".
I might just enlarge the chamfer slightly as a couple of the rods appear to not have much of a chamfer.
Thanks for your reply.
