Rear Sway Bar Angles
« on: November 06, 2013 - 05:57:32 PM »
Hotchkiss is shut until Monday for Sema and my car is booked in for some welding on Friday. Perfect timing!

What I'm trying to work out is the approximate angle that the rear sway bay and dog bones should make with the ground?

Thinking logically the sway bar would be most effective when the dog bones are perpendicular from the sway bar, is this correct? This would then be easiest to achieve when the sway is horizontal and dog bones vertical.

Some good news, the rusty section of my chassis is finally being replaced.

Thanks in advance

with the end links verticle it should be most effective , the actual angle of the sway bar makes no real difference being level to the ground or being up or down from level but having the links angled would soften the effectiveness

I set mine up so the bar is perfectly horizontal.  Then I bolted the dog bones into the middle setting and aligned them straight up.  Mocked up the brackets, tacked them in.  Disconnected the dog bones and finished welding.  It took the most time to clean the metal for the welding.  I did it one Saturday morning in my garage on my back, and I'm not a great welder.

Thanks for the help at such late notice. The Challenger is at the work shop now!

The paint was looking really rich after I cleaned it, so I thought I would share a photo.
