Dash wiring harness and what goes where
« on: November 01, 2013 - 06:19:58 PM »
Ok I admit I'm not good with the search. I would think this has probably been covered before. Ready to put my dash back in and have the harness laying in place in the dash frame. Several questions about what some of the leads/plug-in are for. IS there a post that shows pictures of what the different connections are for? Also I replaced the factory gauges with after market so the lighting I was planning on tapping into the factory gauge light wiring. Which wire is + and what color wire is - on the factory light wires. also the light bar above the gauges (3 lights) orange wire does that plug into a 3 way yellow pig tail? It looks like that is the only place a unless I have the harness laid out wrong. There is a red socket toward the center or passenger side of the dash I'm guessing a relay of sometime type went there. Any ideas of what it is used for? Any pictures or links to a post that covers this information would be great.  My memory is worse then I thought, old time and CRS.

yes the orange wire plugs into the orange tri plug , red could be for the lighter or radio near the center of the dash

Could the orange wire maybe plug into a 3 way pigtail. The orange wire has a bullet end and that is what the 3 way yellow plug is for a bullet style connection.

My shop manual shows the blue wire plugs in on the top terminal and the green wire plugs in on the bottom.

Thanks to all of you i have it figured out. Now I have to find my old dash panel so I know what the 3 lights at the bottom are for. I would guess temp warning light and maybe e-brake? I will have to go dig through the shed this weekend and hope I can find it. It was a standard dash I have the metal core it has the color of the wires labeled put not what they are for. I will have to look for the plastic front and hopefully it is labeled.
